Ragdoll
Care Level: Moderate Temperament: Docile, affectionate, people-oriented Diet: High-quality dry/wet food (prone to weight gain) Lifespan: 12–17 years Weight: 10–20 lbs (4.5–9 kg) – Females smaller than males Distinct Features: Striking blue eyes, pointed coloration, silky semi-long coat What We Love About This Breed: ➤ "Puppy-cat" personality – follows owners room-to-room ➤ Famous floppiness – goes limp when held (hence the name!) ➤ Stunning blue eyes – always in mesmerizing sapphire hue ➤ Quiet voice – gentle meows, more likely to communicate with body language The Ragdoll is the ultimate velcro cat, bred for their calm temperament and tendency to relax completely in human arms. These gentle giants mature slowly, reaching full size around 4 years old, with males often growing significantly larger than females. Their colorpoint coat (darker face/ears/tail) comes in seal, blue, chocolate, lilac, and flame patterns, with mitted or bicolor variations. While beautiful, their silky fur is low-maintenance compared to other longhairs (brush 2–3x weekly). Ragdolls thrive on routine and can develop separation anxiety if left alone too often. They’re not street-smart – indoor-only living is a must. Unlike many cats, they typically enjoy belly rubs and being carried like a baby. Health Notes: Prone to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) and bladder stones – reputable breeders screen for these. Ideal For: Homebodies who want a cuddly, low-energy companion that acts like a living stuffed animal. Fun Fact: Ragdolls were created in 1960s California by breeding a white Persian-like cat named Josephine with Birman/Siamese-type cats.
